NuFletch Archery Spectrum Fletching System
By Denny Chambers Tue, Jul 20, 2010
When it comes to arrows or crossbow bolts, the majority of the conversation will stem around what broadhead is best or which arrow shaft to use. Very little fuss is made about the back end of an arrow. Well NuFletch Archery plans on changing that. Their new patent pending fletching system will do for fletching arrows and bolts, what PVC did for the plumbing industry....make it dirt simple. The NuFletch fletching system takes all of the complicated parts out of refletching an arrow or bolt. There is no need for fletching jigs or messy glues. Once the NuFletch system is installed, refletching an arrow can be done while sitting in a tree stand, out in the field, or at the range.
The NuFletch system consist of an aluminum shaft that has already been perfectly sloted to hold any 2" Blazer veins. To install the NuFletch system, you simply cut 3.5" off the tail end of your arrow or bolt. Next, install an insert like the ones used for broadheads, then screw in the NuFletch shaft. Once the shaft is installed, you simple unscrew the end cap and insert the Blazer veins into the precut slots. If a vein becomes worn or damaged, again just unscrew the cap, remove the bad vein, install a new one, and replace the cap. It's that easy.
The NuFletch system comes in three models: Spectrum Standard, Spectrum Light, and Spectrum X. The Spectrum Standard model will fit most carbon shaft arrows between .280" and .306". The Spectrum Light model is made for smaller diameter shafts between .265" and .275". The Spectrum X model is made for crossbow bolts. The NuFletch Spectrum models are available in several colors including red, blue, black, pink, and green. There are also available in a straight vein configuration and in a helical vein configuration with a 2° offset. I was also told by a NuFletch rep at the recent Birmingham World Deer Expo, that there would be a lighted nock available for the Spectrum models soon.
One concern many have with the NuFletch system, is "How much weight will they add to my arrow?". The NuFletch Spectrum models do weigh more than the 3.5" of arrow shaft that you will be removing, but the added weight does not seem to have huge effect on arrow performance or speed according to test data provided by NuFletch's website. On average you will find that the Spectrum Standard will add approximately 50 to 60 grains to the arrow. For instance, lets take a look at the Beeman ICS Hunter 400 that I am currently shooting. The Beeman ICS Hunter 400 is a 8.4 grain per inch arrow. Cutting off 3.5" will remove 29.4 grains of weight. Adding an insert for the NuFletch Spectrum to screw into will add about 15 grains. The NuFletch Spectrum Standard has a weight of 74 grains. So how does this all add up?
74 grains (Spectrum Standard) - 29.4 grains (3.5" of shaft removed) + 15 grains (added insert) = 59.6 grains of added weight.
While this will slow your arrow a few feet per second, the results should not be very noticable with today's 300+ IBO bows. According to NuFletch's testing, the NuFletch Spectrum give the arrow a stiffer tail which results in better energy transfer from the string to the arrow. The stiffer tail also allows the arrow to recover quicker due to less oscillation.
NuFletch Spectrum's are available for order now. The NuFletch Spectrum is sold in packs of 3 and come with the fletch holder and double lock nocks. Due to the different sizes in arrow shafts, inserts are not included. The MSRP for a 3 pack of the Spectrum Standard or Spectrum Light is $39.99, while the Spectrum Xretails for $42.99. With the NuFletch Spectrum, you will be able to quickly and easily keep your arrows ready for the next big hunting trip or archery competition.
